He did not think of himself as a writer for the simple reason that the world had never allowed him to think of himself in this way.
Kurt VonnegutFreud said he didn't know what women wanted. I know what women want. They want a whole lot of people to talk to.
Kurt VonnegutBeware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before.
Kurt VonnegutAfter the First World War, Germany was trying to build a democracy. Then when the Reichstag, the legislature, was burned down in 1933, this was seen as such an emergency that human rights had to be suspended. The attack on the World Trade Towers has allowed Bush and his gang to do anything. What are we to do now? I say when there's a code red, we should all run around like chickens with our heads cut off. I don't feel that we are in any great danger.
Kurt VonnegutWhile on the subject of burning books, I want to congratulate librarians, not famous for their physical strength, who, all over this country, have staunchly resisted anti-democratic bullies who have tried to remove certain books from their shelves, and destroyed records rather than have to reveal to thought police the names of persons who have checked out those titles. So the America I loved still exists, if not in the White House, the Supreme Court, the Senate, the House of Representatives, or the media. The America I loved still exists at the front desks of our public libraries.
