Good manners consist of doing precisely what everyone thinks should be done, especially when no one knows quite what that is.

To really enjoy drugs you've got to want to get out of where you are. But there are some wheres that are harder to get out of than others. This is the drug-taking problem for adults. Teenage Weltscbmerz is easy to escape. But what drug will get a grown-up out of, for instance, debt?

The problem isn't a Congress that won't cut spending or a president who won't raise taxes. The problem is an American public with a bottomless sense of entitlement to federal money.

Worshiping the earth is more fun than going to church. It's also closer.

Every government is a parliament of whores. The trouble is, in a democracy, the whores are us.

I try to ONLY ridicule people who's efforts are sincere. Very little trouble has been caused in the world by insincere efforts. An occasional seduction maybe. There were very few insincere Stalinists or Nazis.

Politics is the art of achieving prestige and power without merit.
