When Things Fall Apartโ and I quote โLife is a good teacher and a good friend. Things are always in transition, if we could only realize it. Nothing ever sums itself up in the way that we like to dream about. The off-center, in-between state is an ideal situation, a situation in which we don't get caught and we can open our hearts and minds beyond limit. It's a very tender, nonaggressive, open-ended state of affairs.
Pema ChodronWithout giving up hopeโthat thereโs somewhere better to be, that thereโs someone better to beโwe will never relax with where we are or who we are.
Pema ChodronThe idea of karma is that you continually get the teaching that you need to open your heart.
Pema ChodronThe second noble truth says that this resistance is the...mechanism of what we call ego, that resisting life causes suffering.
Pema ChodronInstead of asking ourselves, 'How can I find security and happiness?' we could ask ourselves, 'Can I touch the center of my pain? Can I sit with suffering, both yours and mine, without trying to make it go away? Can I stay present to the ache of loss or disgrace-disapp ointment in all its many forms-and let it open me?' This is the trick.
