I just keep my ear to the street. I haven't read any music books recently, because I figure I read everything I need to know back when I was 12, 13 years old. I know pretty much everything about record publishing, radio stations. The only thing that's changed is you gotta keep up with social media. It's free promotion.
Juicy JI knew about the music. I got that part but I wanted to know the business, I wanted to know about royalties, how people got paid, producers and stuff like that so I read all those books like twice.
Juicy JI never stopped grinding. I never stopped hustling. I never stopped working. I just kept moving. It has nothing to do with the money or anything like that. It's just that I love music.
Juicy JI was 13 and my mom was a librarian so I told her to check out every music book she could possibly find. I wanted to know the business part of being in the music business.
Juicy JI keep my ear to the streets - that's how I know music. I live, breathe, eat, and sleep music. That's it. Nothing else.
Juicy JWhat I live and do is music. When I'm not doing that, I'm just kicking back, watching my stocks and bonds and checks coming in the mailbox. I really don't have anything else I do. I may go to a movie or something. It's just family time and things like that.
Juicy JIt's up to the parents to watch their kids and make sure their kids aren't doing any crazy drugs. I always blame the parents. When their kids are doing something crazy, I blame the parents.
Juicy JIt's hard for a person to try to keep his stuff together being nominated for something and then performing onstage.
Juicy JI don't advise kids to do what I do. I'm just doing me. I just smoke a little weed and do a little drink.
Juicy JI just make the music, and people have the say. When I'm making songs, I never call them hits.
Juicy JEverything runs smoothly. I'm never uncomfortable with anything I do. I never feel like I regret anything. I love music. All kinds of music. I'm a producer first. I feel like I can do anything and still be myself. You hear a song and you're like, "Juicy J is on this song, Juicy J is on that song," but it's still me at the end of the day.
Juicy JNothing is going to stay the same; nothing's gonna sound like in 1952. There's some stuff that has some elements of back in the day, like back in the 90's, back in the 80's or whatever. Some elements, but it's not going to be the same, exactly, sounding. And I love it, I've seen the music change. I've seen the flow and the energy go from turned up to turned down to back to turned up. I like to try different stuff. I don't like to do the same old thing over and over again. I don't like to be repetitive, that gets on my nerves.
Juicy JMusic changes. Nothing stays the same. You just gotta be able to roll with the punches. When the music changes, it's not that you gotta change too - it's that you gotta be able to maintain and hold your ground.
Juicy JI'm a producer/rapper so I feel like I can do anything. I can do all kinds of music. I've done all kinds of music and I'm good at it.
Juicy JI'm not old school, like, "Aw, man, I gotta do my music like I did in '98." I just go with the flow. I don't try to change anything.
Juicy JI'm a producer first, and I know music, so I can jump on any song, whether it's pop or urban, without changing me. Whatever I do, I'm gonna make it classic.
Juicy JMoney is important, but I gotta like the song to play it. I won't just jump on anything because someone asked me to jump on it. I'm a musican. I love music. I gotta like it and feel comfortable with it.
Juicy JI don't have a hand in a lot of my own beats. I like all types of music and all types of beats though.
Juicy JI'm not a pop rapper. That's nothing against pop music - I love pop music. I've jumped on pop records for people and still will, but I'm not a pop artist. I didn't start from there. I started in underground music. I consider myself an underground artist, as well as a producer.
Juicy JThe first video I shot for "A Zip and a Double Cup"รขโฌ"I have two versions, a remix video and a the originalรขโฌ"because I wasnรขโฌโขt really trying to do anything. I just came home and got kind of high and shot a video in the parking lot. I just shot the video how I wanted to do it and posted it online and the next day it went crazy.
Juicy JI think people like listening to what I call trippy music but maybe next year it will be something else. I still have gangster tracks and real-life stories and situations in my music. Iรขโฌโขve been blessed because over 20 year, I never stopped doing what I was doing. Itรขโฌโขs pretty much the same thing and Iรขโฌโขve never really changed anything up.
Juicy JI'm never uncomfortable with anything I do. I never feel like I regret anything. I love music. All kinds of music. I'm a producer first. I feel like I can do anything and still be myself.
Juicy JI'm still doing me. I try to come up with different concept for my shows, you gotta keep the people interested, but I'm still me.
Juicy JSometimes itรขโฌโขs gin or sometimes itรขโฌโขs some champagne, and sometimes I go on stage with nothing at all. Iรขโฌโขm turnt up, naturally.
Juicy JThere's a lot of money in doing score music. You can get a chance to get nominated for an Oscar.
Juicy JAs a musician, you write and make music as you go. It's definitely in a great sequence. When you release songs, you think, "Let me make sure this goes with this so it's like a story."
Juicy JWhatever you do, stay focused. Because any stuff is not going to last forever. Once you get a show at something, you gotta roll with it. You can't sit on your ass. You better keep working. You better stay motivated.
Juicy JI love performing, signing autographs, taking 'selfies' with the fans. This is just what I feel like I was born to do.
Juicy JI love making music. I never stop. I want to keep it moving forward. I like to go into the studio and make hits. It makes me feel good.
