Realizing that other people have a problem with [homosexuality] was the weirdest thing for me. As a kid it wasn't even something that was mentioned. It was never something that was even explained to me. It was just, "That's Mark and he's gay." Mark was just another friend of my dad's who would talk about his boyfriend instead of his girlfriend. I was 5. I didn't care. It seemed perfectly normal, and still does.
Daniel RadcliffeI'll say American for now. I really have no preference, though. Nationality is nothing. It's all about the girl - but she has to be curvy!
Daniel RadcliffeThere were some parts of the film [Swiss Army Man] that the Daniels [Kwan and Scheinert] really wanted to look as elegant as a piece of ballet. As Hank and Manny go on in the story, they get better and better at being with each other and more and more adept - Hank knows more and more what Manny's going to need at any given point, and having that choreography helps a bit.
Daniel RadcliffeAnd I'm slightly in love with Scarlett Johansson: she's just stunning. And she's bright, which is incredibly sexy.
Daniel RadcliffeAll it takes is for me to be seen chatting up a girl for [tabloids] to, you know, make up some crappy headline about me being a sex rat or whatever they call it.
Daniel RadcliffeI think I tried to steal a Mars bar once from a shop but then I went and put it back.
Daniel RadcliffeMy preparation is mainly just knowing the lines and getting in and knowing where your character is, knowing what it's about and having ideas that you can put in on the day.
Daniel RadcliffeI've done seven movies in eight years, and with each movie I feel like I'm learning a lot. I'm still young-ish, so I still feel like I'm in the zone of learning and creating. Those are the perfect places to do that. And in a weird way, you have a lot of freedom.
Daniel RadcliffePotter for me is something that's been giving me these amazing opportunities to start a career and learn while I'm doing, which is the best way to learn.
Daniel RadcliffeEvery day the Daniels [Kwan and Scheinert] would come up with some amazing solution and [make it easy] to put yourself in their hands. There's something really lovely about knowing you're working with directors who know exactly what they want and exactly what they're looking for, and they're not going to move on until they have it. That, as an actor, frees you up a lot because you can [try different approaches] and they'll only use what's appropriate.
Daniel RadcliffePeople tell me I look mournful. They say, "Cheer up, Dan, it's not that bad!" Sometimes, I just look into space, which freaks people out. If I was ever required to do anything other than look haunted, I could. I'm a happy person.
Daniel RadcliffeAnd well historically it's never been a good thing to compare yourself to biblical characters.
Daniel RadcliffeAs an artist, you have a path that you're on that evolves with the kinds of stories you want to tell.
Daniel RadcliffeI think I have just always had an awareness that when you go to a premiere and people start cheering and shouting your name and stuff, they are shouting at a perception of you that they have.
Daniel RadcliffeI met Elijah Wood once, I met Peter Jackson, I met Orlando Bloom, and they're all really cool.
Daniel RadcliffeJust keep acting is my plan, I just want to keep going for as long as I can. I've had a fantastic time on Potter, I will be very sad to leave it because every time I look back on one of these films, every scene I watch will be forever linked to a memory of what happened that day or something that was happening around that time in my life.
Daniel RadcliffeAs an actor, there is room for a certain amount of creativity, but you're always ultimately going to be saying somebody else's words. I don't think I'd have the stamina, skill or ability to write a novel, but I'd love to write short stories and poetry, because those are my two passions.
Daniel RadcliffeThe idea the actors are the most important people on a film set I think is very stupid. Actors are the most replaceable people there. There are literally millions of us. There's very few people that can operate a steady-cam. The numbers are a lot, lot fewer for that, you know?
Daniel RadcliffeIn some ways, you get to find your voice better in [a sequel] because you have to define how you're doing it differently.
Daniel RadcliffeI basically have the diet of a 19th-century Irish navy, apart from the litre of stout a day. It's meat and potatoes and bread and cheese: those are my four food groups.
Daniel RadcliffeTo be fair, it's not even the first time I've seen a dead version of myself. There was one on Harry Potter, on the last movie, that they actually used to bring to set in a body bag.
Daniel RadcliffeI was worried on a personal level because I wanted to be slightly taller than I am, ideally. But I've now accepted it. Basically, I came to the conclusion a while ago that you can either be really bitter about it or you can make loads of funny jokes.
Daniel RadcliffeMaybe it's a compliment to the film that you can't do that with it, that it can't be explained in 15 seconds.
Daniel RadcliffeMy favorite phrase, that a friend of mine who worked on the Potter films and was a lot older than me would use in front of me, and I picked up from him many great phrases - the English have a lot of great idioms for sweating. I don't know why that is. But that's what we do. I feel like it's particularly our country; probably everywhere has a lot of idioms for sweating. He always said, "I'm sweating like a glassblower's asshole," which I always found an incredibly strange and yet vivid image.
Daniel RadcliffeI like the idea of being a youngish parent. So I've got energy to play football even though they'll be better than me by the time they're four.
Daniel RadcliffeI used to be self conscious about my height, but then I thought, f*** that, I'm Harry Potter.
Daniel RadcliffeI think Harry Potter's very important. Every opportunity I will get for the rest of my life, I would not have got if it wasn't for Harry Potter. And it would be height of ingratitude if I was ever anything but proud to be associated with these films.
Daniel RadcliffeI might like to be an actor, but there are loads of other things I'm interested in as well, like music and writing and sports. I want to keep my options open.
Daniel RadcliffeI think it was pretty obvious early on that we had both come with kind of the same attitude of "Let's just [jump] in," and neither of us was going to be precious about it. I feel like the thing that we learned is, weirdly, the most intimate thing or a very intimate thing you can do to somebody is hold their tongue with your fingers. When Paul [Dano] is making me talk [in Swiss Army Man].
Daniel RadcliffeI'm very proud of being Jewish. It means I have a good work ethic, and you get Jewish humour and you're allowed to tell Jewish jokes.
Daniel RadcliffeFans are really important for me. And if they take pains to write me, it's the minimum that I answer myself.
Daniel RadcliffeI've worked every day since I was 10. I don't know how to do anything else. There is nothing else I'd rather be doing.
Daniel RadcliffeSometimes you can't help but pay attention to what is written about you. You are trying not to because it's generally not constructive, it can be very funny, in which case it's fine to pay attention to it if you're going to laugh about it. But if it's going to get you angry then it's a pretty pointless waste of energy, so I try and be selective about what I take an interest in about myself.
Daniel RadcliffeThere is always this thing of will you get too old for your part? But people are playing a lot younger than they actually are in real life. I don't think it's as big an issue as a lot of people are making it out to be.
Daniel RadcliffeThere's no blueprint for where I should be. I see myself as a young, good actor who still has a lot to learn. There's nobody at any point in their career who is the finished article.
Daniel RadcliffeI will never, ever do a film as successful as the Harry Potter series. But neither will anyone else.
Daniel RadcliffeI'm quite confident, but I don't fancy myself. I don't really care about how I look.
Daniel RadcliffeBeing self-critical is good; being self-hating is destructive. There's a very fine line there somewhere, and I walk it carefully.
Daniel RadcliffeIt's interesting because people assume that because I'm famous I know all famous people.
Daniel RadcliffeIn my experience of doing physical scenes, half of your energy is spent on trying to get the other actor to enter into it physically with you. Most actors don't want to hurt each other.
Daniel Radcliffe
