There are two worlds, the world of desire and the world of enlightenment. The world of enlightenment doesn't go anywhere. It is endless, luminous perfection. The world of desire leads to more desire.

The fulfillment of desire does not necessarily make you happy because there is a satiation factor. You can get some apple pie and eat it. If this is what makes you happy, why not eat ten?

Enter into the activities of the world, without getting overjoyed by success or totally put out by failure. Whether they love you or hate you, it doesn't much matter. What matters is stillness.

I learned from my own teachers, a long time ago in another universe, the quality of quiet fortitude that is renewed by a person's love of light.

Those who scorn and hate the world and hate themselves miss the point. The point was that there wasn't one. There was no place to go to.

Taoism has no rules. It's a suggestion for preceiving life in its wholeness, without unnessary categorization, yet enjoying the beauty of categorization.

I was initiated as a Buddhist monk at the age of 19, but I think that initiation is simply a starting point.
