I was ecstatic they re-named 'French Fries' as 'Freedom Fries'. Grown men and women in positions of power in the U.S. government showing themselves as idiots.
Johnny DeppYou can go out and try to do the best work that you can do within the context of what that is, but it's really gotta be about the work and what you're focusing on.
Johnny DeppAny character that you come up with or create is a piece of you. You're putting yourself into that character, but there's the guise of the character. So there's a certain amount of safety in the character, where you feel more safe being the character than you do being just you
Johnny DeppThe funny thing is you oddly don't really say goodbye to all the characters you've played. There's like a chest of drawers in your head that you can always access. They're always around. I'm not sure if that's healthy. But they're all there.
Johnny DeppI've always been frightened of karaoke, so I've never tried it. Karaoke scares the hell out of me!
Johnny DeppYou're looking at each and every potential corner for an air bubble to escape. Absolutely! You're on the best of your game.
Johnny DeppI was always fascinated by people who are considered completely normal, because I find them the weirdest of all
Johnny DeppIn terms of it being a first screenplay, literally, my hat is off to him [Wally Pfister]. I didn't see any virgin blather in screen direction, or anything like that. It was just a wonderfully executed piece, and a complicated one. The mathematics involved in putting this film together, between Jack and Wally, and the great support of Alcon, it was not a easy little operetta.
Johnny DeppIf you had to chose one half of your son, which one would it be?" What kind of a question is that?!" No need to snap. It was just a question.
Johnny DeppEven when you're down and blue, just remember that someone out there loves you, even if you don't know it and even if you haven't yet met them. There's someone out there waiting for you, remember that and keep faith. You'll get there.
Johnny DeppYou always miss them [characters you've played] once you've walked away, but part of them always stays with you too.
Johnny DeppI literally went from being unable to play my rent to being on a plane the next day, being paid peanuts.
Johnny DeppThey said, "You get $2 million to make the film, if you're not in it. If you are in it, you get $5 million to make the film." There was no way to make the thing for $2 million, so I made it for $5 million. And then, it turned out there was no way to make the thing for $5 million. That's when it got weird.
Johnny DeppI remember in that red leisure suit I sort of felt like a Pizza Hut employee, and the white one was the ultimate, with the white turtleneck collar, that was the ultimate in bad taste.
Johnny DeppIronically, it was only maybe a year prior to Tim calling I had re-read Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, and what I took away from it was these very strange, little cryptic nuggets that he'd thrown in there.
Johnny DeppAn actor shouldn't have to leave the set and go home and write a bunch of stuff for a bunch of other people, the next day. I found it very unpleasant.
Johnny DeppSomehow you've been voted something for a magazine, and it's a complete mystery to me. I wake up and I have to look at that head when I brush my teeth every morning, you know. And it's weird. And it's unpleasant at times.
Johnny DeppMarlon Brando was the absolute opposite of everything they told me he was going to be, which is that he was a testy guy who wants to know that he's in control of everything. But, that's not who Marlon was. No matter what he did, the most important thing on his mind was justice.
Johnny DeppObviously, technology is moving and reshaping itself, radically, every day. We're all capable of answering that question within ourselves. Would you do it for the person that you love? Would you be married to a hard drive, essentially?
Johnny DeppI'm not a great pothead or anything like that... but weed is much, much less dangerous than alcohol.
Johnny DeppI had just had a daughter, who was three or three-and-half years old, and I had been watching nothing but cartoons. That's really it. There was no YouTube. You're in France and you're raising a kid, so you break out the Tex Avery.
Johnny DeppI don't trust anyone who hasn't been self-destructiv e in some way, and who hasn't gone through some sort of bout of self-loathing. You've got to bang yourself around a bit to know yourself.
Johnny DeppWhat happens to me when I read a script, when something grabs hold of me, I start getting these flashes of people or places or things or images.
Johnny DeppI'd worked with Marlon [Brando] a couple of times, and he was a practical joker. He was far more interested in getting jokes out than getting the words out. We laughed all the time.
Johnny DeppI do believe that you have to bring some degree of truth from yourself to the role [Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street ]in and I'll admit it here, I have shaved a grown man before. I have done it. And it wasn't Tim [Burton].
Johnny DeppI don't think anybody's necessarily ready for death. You can only hope that when it approaches, you feel like you've said what you wanted to say. Nobody wants to go out in mid-sentence.
Johnny DeppOne thing that's been a great, uplifting experience through all this is, since the first "Pirates" [movie], the people who've gone to see the films, the audience members. You meet people on the street - whether they're 5, 25, 65 or 85 - they've all had the same experience, and they've all enjoyed it. So that's what keeps me moving forward in this crazy process.
Johnny DeppI'd just thank the people out there who have been with my up-and-down, weird-road, strange career and supported me and stuck with me all these years. I mean, they're my boss. That's what keeps me working.
Johnny DeppThere were so many great teachers that had so much to offer. The idea of being rigid, why would you do that? People have their things, but why be rigid with any education when you can take things from here and take things from there?
Johnny DeppInterestingly enough, for me, a character like Captain Jack, you feel like you could just continue. The possibilities are endless and limitless. There is any possibility of madness and absurdity that could commence, so you feel that, with this character, you're never really done.
Johnny DeppPeople in life, when they have a tendency to exaggerate or lie or whatever, you always sort of notice that their voice goes up quite high.
Johnny DeppMy children's favorite, and it's funny because they've seen it but they have a difficult time watching it because it's their dad and they make that connection, but Edward Scissorhands is by far my kids' favorite. They just connect with the character, and they see their dad feeling that isolation, that loneliness. He's a tragic character, so I think it's hard for them. They bawl.
Johnny DeppIf you fall in love with 2 people at once choose the second one because if you truly loved the first one you never would have fell in love with the second one
Johnny DeppOver the years all these vampire movies have come out and nobody looks like a vampire anymore.
Johnny DeppIt's funny what [producer Richard Zanuck said about even though you can't quite place when the book or the story came into your life, and I do vaguely remember roughly five years old reading versions of Alice in Wonderland, but the thing is the characters. You always know the characters. Everyone knows the characters and they're very well-defined characters, which I always thought was fascinating. Most people who haven't read the book definitely know the characters and reference them.
