The job isn't to catch up to the status quo; the job is to invent the status quo.
People are not afraid of failure, they're afraid of blame.
Self sufficiency appears to be a worthy goal, but it's now impossible if you want to actually get anything done. All our productivity, leverage and insight comes from being part of a community, not apart from it. The goal, I think, is to figure out how to become more dependent, not less.
Either you defend the status quo, or you invent the future.
You succeed because you've chosen to be confident. It's not really useful to require yourself to be successful before you're able to become confident.
