Leading is not the same as being the leader. Being the leader means you hold the highest rank, either by earning it, good fortune or navigating internal politics. Leading, however, means that others willingly follow you—not because they have to, not because they are paid to, but because they want to.

Systems and processes are essential to keep the crusade going, but they should not replace the crusade.

People don't buy what you do; they buy what you stand for.

The people who say,"What guarantee do I have?" I walk away. I'll get you later.

I don't care about convincing the people who think I'm naive or an idiot.

Leadership is neither a rank nor a title. It is a choice. The choice to provide care and protection for those for whom we are responsible.

Look down from as high as possible. Look ahead as far as you can see. Then decide what to do.
