I wasn't at all focused on school, and I didn't achieve much. But I've got a sense of urgency now. I feel I can't let any more time waste away.
Robert PattinsonThats the worst thing, I don't really care if people say I'm a bad actor, I can like work on that, but if they just say that he's ugly thats just like โoh.. really?
Robert PattinsonSometimes I think, 'To hell with acting' and then I realize I could be working at a shoe shop. Acting is much cooler.
Robert PattinsonI remember when I was a teenager thinking my girlfriend was cheating on me, and going around riling myself up. Pretending to cry. It was totally illegitimate-I actually didn't feel anything. I went to some pub and then went crying all the way home. And I got into my dog's bed. I was crying and holding on to the dog. I woke up in the morning, and the dog was looking at me like, 'You're a fake.'
Robert Pattinson[Sometimes] I will go through periods where I will think 'Oh maybe I should do a commercial movie' and then I just think, someone gave me a really great piece of advice, someone from my agency weirdly, they said the only clients that are happy are the ones that just do what they want to do. So I just kind of do everything for myself.
Robert PattinsonIf I had known that this movie would bring so much craziness, I don't know if I would have said 'yes' to the Twilight Saga. I never asked to be a poster-boy.
Robert PattinsonPeople don't find the personal lives of people with much, much more power than any celebrity would have - don't find their personal lives interesting.
Robert PattinsonI don't think anyone knows why people like [Twilight]. I don't think even the fans know why they connect with it the way they do. It's a visceral thing.
Robert PattinsonPeople just project their idea of my character on to me and they just seem to assume that I'm the same, when in reality I'm not.
Robert PattinsonI used to be able to be in England and just be fine. No one had any idea who I was.I get a lot more abuse in England.
Robert PattinsonThis is quite difficult 'cause I have a really flat head, and so it's quite difficult to get a correct angle. And you can't go up from down below as well, 'cause I've got, like, rock solid gelled hair. And so, like, it was odd. I don't know, sometimes I feel like my head is being, like, turned inside out. Like that episode of Ren & Stimpy when he's inside his own belly button. I don't know.
Robert PattinsonSince the day I finished shooting there's been at least one person come up to me every single day and then after the trailer came out, at least four. It's absolutely bizarre to me. This was before there was any systematic promotion of the movie. It's just completely nuts.
Robert PattinsonThe only emotional connection of relevance is with my dog. My relationship with my dog, it's ridiculous.
Robert PattinsonI still had the same frustration with trying to play [Edward Cullen], the entire way through, right up until the last shot. It's a strange part because, on the one hand, a lot of the audience projects their idea of Edward[Cullen] onto him. It doesn't matter what he is. They want him to be a certain way. And then, my instincts were to try and play it and to try to find the fallibility in him and the weaknesses.
Robert PattinsonIt makes me feel like working non-stop: at least, on sets, the level of security gives me a bit of privacy. It's a relief.
Robert PattinsonI did this movie about Salvador Dali a few years ago and had hair extensions and a little bob. That was incredibly bizarre.
Robert PattinsonI like being meticulous and it's quite difficult as an actor to have that much control.
Robert PattinsonI don't think there is any analysis. I don't think anyone knows why people like [The Twilight]. I don't think even the fans know why they connect with it in the way they do. It's a visceral thing.
Robert PattinsonIn a lot of ways, I was kind of crossing lines of what I thought I was comfortable doing. I had to do all this naked stuff.
Robert PattinsonThat was the good thing about having different directors [on series]. You had to stay on your toes.
Robert PattinsonUp until I was 12 my sisters used to dress me up as a girl and introduce me as 'Claudia'! Twelve was a real turning point for me as I moved to a mixed school, and then I became cool and discovered hair gel.
Robert PattinsonIf you took away publicists and things and people spoke for themselves, then they'd have to be responsible for their words.
Robert PattinsonIf you are using a digital camera specifically for that reason you have in mind from the beginning, then yeah, it'll work. But like if you're just shooting a normal film and just kind of just shooting extra stuff because you can because you've got the memory space, it's a bit pointless.
Robert PattinsonI have very, very low expenditures, but still I manage to spend it all. I guess Hot Pockets are more expensive than I thought.
Robert PattinsonI never understood the nudity thing. Iโm so envious of people who can walk around naked.
Robert PattinsonI have to look over my shoulder all the time, be really vigilant because at any moment, someone could be filming me or recording what I'm saying.
Robert PattinsonI kind of wish people didnโt know who I am, that I could just lie, say Iโm a speechwriter for Obama. This is what I said before Twilight. And then Obama came along and picked up all these young writers. I found out this guy, Jon Favreau โ whoโs not the actor Jon Favreau โ is writing for him. And I was like, Wow, I wonder if the people who thought I was bullshitting at the time are like, โOh my god. That guy! That kid who was drunk in some bar actually wrote the health care bill!โ
Robert PattinsonSchool reports were always pretty bad - I never ever did my homework. I always turned up for lessons as I liked my teachers but my report said I didn't try very hard.
Robert PattinsonYour ideas dry up sometimes, and you get lazy sometimes 'cause you're around the same people. That was the good thing about having different directors. You had to stay on your toes.
Robert PattinsonI don't know. I'd like to think that I haven't changed that much. Within myself I don't think I've changed.
Robert PattinsonThere are too many possibilities, if you can't die. If you're playing a normal human being, there's always that.
Robert PattinsonI'm just scared of crowds. I just think people require things of me whenever there's a screaming crowd, and I always think I won't be able to provide what they want, so that's why I look scared all the time.
Robert PattinsonI never ever would have thought initially it would have been someone like Pierce playing Charles. I think he has an innate likeability to him, as soon as you meet him he's very, very charismatic. Charles, on the page, was someone who's very domineering and quite a negative character, and Pierce just by being Pierce can change the whole dynamic of it, which made for a much for interesting relationship. He's a really nice guy.
Robert PattinsonI have very, very specific ideas about how I want to do my work and how I want to be perceived and to the point of ridiculousness sometimes.
Robert PattinsonI have been lucky, of course. Like, last year, if I went out, I'd have to fight to chat someone up. This year, I look exactly the same, which is really scruffy, and yet lots of people seem to have just changed their minds and decided I'm really sexy.
Robert PattinsonThe only time I ever follow Twitter is if I'm in a restaurant or something, just before I leave, to see if people are waiting outside. It does make you a bit of a loser, especially when someone asks you, 'Hey, you want to go to dinner at this place?' and I'm like, 'Can we have dinner at this place? It has three exits.'
Robert PattinsonAfter the first one [Twilight], people started referring to it as a franchise, but a franchise is a Burger King or a Subway. It's not a movie. The people who start to say it are generally the people who are making money off of it. They love it when something becomes a franchise. But, as an actor, I think it's scary.
Robert PattinsonI am a big fan of music and clothing style of the 1960s. Whether in England or the United States, I like everything from that time.
Robert PattinsonMoney by Martin Amis. I read it when I was 15, I read it hundreds of times since then and it always makes me laugh. Amis has managed to create a world that is both funny and abrasive. I'd love to play John Self, the depraved hero, who's without illusions, he created.
Robert PattinsonRecently I stood in the desert, far out side of L. A., and watched the sun set on a circus tent from 1930. Every where stood animals: elephants, tigers that should be loaded into a steam train. 300 extras in costumes raced around, the modern world had disappeared totally. Although that was totally fake, it still happened directly before my eyes! That was my perfect day. I would be gladly experience that every day. It happens continually to me: It calls itself work. That is wonderful and more than enough.
Robert PattinsonThe only thing that you can do is do jobs and see if people respond to that. I'm always holding onto the fact that I don't really know who I am. Hopefully I won't compartmentalize myself because of that, because I'm completely ignorant of the whole.
Robert PattinsonOnly for practical reasons. To find out if I said something stupid in an interview. So I can limit the damage.
