The decisions we make about our lives today determine our tomorrow. Anything that seems like it's not particularly important or on our agenda now may be our top priority in time, but we may have missed the chance to make it happen.
It is said that in life we should not regret anything we cannot change. And this is the very truth. The only thing we have control over that we can really change is the present moment. That's why we're looking at 10 important life choices whose consequences we'll feel 10 years from now. It's a good idea to reflect on them and see if we're missing something that can ensure our happiness tomorrow.
Missed opportunities
Throughout our lives, fate presents us with hundreds of opportunities. And we often hesitate, overthink, feel afraid to take the risk and end up doing nothing. However, we are much more likely to regret what we didn't do than the decisions we made, even if they were wrong. It's always better to go on that trip, to take the offer of a new job, to take the adventure, to take the risk to love. Life belongs to the brave!
The lack of priorities
It's clear that as we age, our life priorities change. However, this poses a great risk that we may arrange our priorities in such a way that they work against us rather than for us in the future. This truth should guide us as we make important decisions about the future. It may not be important to you today what kind of pension you will take, but in 10 years' time, it will probably be a topic that will become increasingly close to your heart. Today it may not matter if you have unhealthy habits, but in 10 years you will probably be paying for them. Today you probably don't think you need to save, but in 10 years you might regret it.
Postponed trips
There are some people for whom travel is a mandatory part of life. There are others who constantly put them off until a better time, for the summer, for next year, and never go anywhere. There are others who simply don't like to travel, and instead prefer to build their lives where they are. If you're one of the latter, you're unlikely to regret it, but if you have a desire to see the world, stop procrastinating and prioritize so that you fulfill that dream often enough.
Didn’t say "I love you" often enough
Love makes life meaningful for human beings. Whatever we have achieved, wherever we travel, the most important thing is to have someone to share the happy moments with. That is why it is important not to be afraid to love, to show it and to say it. Be sure to say you love your lover, your best friend, your children, your parents, your loved ones and everyone you truly love. In 10 years, you may no longer have that opportunity.
Bad behavior
Swirling around in the whirlwind of daily tasks, petty (and not so petty) irritations, angered by injustices, saddened by certain events, it is possible to lose control of our behavior and start behaving not so well with others. In 10 years, however, we will be able to look at today from a completely different angle. And then we will surely regret that we were rude, abusive, judgmental, that we broke hearts, that we were the cause of someone's unhappiness because we failed to be the best version of ourselves.
Ignoring health
You know what they say - in your 20s you can eat all you want, you can afford to have a hangover, not exercise and not think much about your health. At 30, however, things start to feel different, and at 40 it is just a whole new world. The choices of what you put on your plate today will probably have repercussions 10 years from now. So, try to think about your health today and you will be thankful tomorrow.
Give into fear
Fear has taken away so many dreams like no other has managed. It's not about being reckless and considering ourselves immortal. It's about not letting those baseless fears take away our dreams, our hopes, our joys, stop us from evolving and leave us unsatisfied. Surely in 10 years we will regret not standing up to our fears. Remember - a person has just as much power as they need to deal with their biggest fear.
The neglected relationships
Money is made and spent, problems come and go, work never ends. But the connections we make make up a large part of our days. In 10 years, we are likely to regret that we neglected the relationships that were important to us, that we didn't spend time with the people we love.
Holding Grudges
Whether we are prideful or not, harboring a grudge is something that works against us. It doesn't hurt the one who offended us, it doesn't solve the problem, it doesn't erase the bitterness. It only hurts us. In 10 years, we will probably still feel its impact because it keeps working in the background and creating anxiety and stress for us.
Lost time
Time doesn't come back - if we've wasted it, we won't have a second chance to make amends. That's why it’s so important how we plan it, what we choose to do, who we choose to spend it with, how often we allow ourselves fun and joy, what we put off, how much we waste. There is a simple truth - wasted time is worse even than wasted money. In 10 years, you will understand it.
